Your New Winter Skincare Routine from Kit Harington’s Groomer

Winter is definitely a time when skin gets stressed with temperature changes—heating indoors and less sunlight can affect skin not looking its best and on the grey (read: dull) side. We rang up celebrity groomer Emma Day. As a Brit, she knows a thing or two about cold weather, and her client roster includes a bunch of handsome faces who look like they’ve never been whipped by a blistering wind in their well-hydrated lives: Kit Harington, Leonardo DiCaprio, Adrien Brody, Rami Malek, Tom Hanks, Ethan Hawke, Peter Dinklage, Willem Dafoe, and Evan Mock. Here, she walk us through her favorite winter products & skincare routine.

“I love the combination of a Vitamin C cream for the morning and a retinol cream at night—during winter months in particular. It’s the best combination for anti-aging and brightening up dull skin, but it’s best to build up your tolerance to retinol gently as skin can be quite sensitive to retinol when it’s not used to it.

I love the brand Medik8 and their C- Tetra Day Cream SPF 30 combined with Crystal Retinal 3TM (their retinol goes up to higher strengths as required). This is a highly effective no-nonsense medical brand that really works.”

“Using retinol means that it’s super important to make sure you have a sunscreen [preferably SPF 50] on during the day as skin will be more sensitized. I love Ultra Violette Queen Screen SPF 50 and COOLA Sun Silk Drops in SPF 30.”

“If your skin is a little congested with blackheads and blemishes then one of my all-time favorite products is Dermalogica Retinol Clearing Oil. Not only does this tackle outbreaks under the skin and keep them at bay, but it works as an anti-ager. Use this every other night until skin is improved; it works super quickly.”

“If using two different products day and night is a little out of your comfort zone then I suggest buying a good hyaluronic serum. A recent one I came across that I love is Triple Peptide + Cactus Oasis Serum from the vegan Cali brand Youth to the People.”

“If your skin is looking like it could do with some color, I love tanning drops mixed with a little moisturizer. You only really need to do this once a week. James Read Click & Glow is great as is Tan-Luxe The Face—take note—it’s very important to wash this off your fingers straight away when you are mixing with your moisturizer otherwise it will stain!”

“Lastly, don’t neglect your eye area. I am a huge fan of Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Skincare and love her Super Anti-Aging Eye Cream which will hydrate and diminish fine lines. Whilst it’s hard to get rid of dark shadows with skincare products, Kiehl’s Age Defender Eye Repair not only hydrates, but it has blurring minerals to reflect light and brighten the eye area.”
