Making socks – really great socks – is an art form, and British label The London Sock Co. are masters at it, having basically cornered the market of luxury socks since their launch in 2013.
After a successful first run collaborating with LEO Founder and stylist Ilaria Urbinati – which were often seen peeking out from beneath the well-tailored trousers of Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds, and Tom Hiddleston, to name a few – they are finally back for a second limited edition capsule collection featuring rich, jewel toned hues in subtle but vibrant textures and patterns. And right on time for the holidays, as the socks are sold both individually and by sets of three or six pairs that come in ready-to-gift boxes, making for a no brainer present.
WHAT
Socks have a tough life. They undergo more friction, wear and tear, and washing than almost any other clothing item. As a result, the brand uses only the finest yarns, which makes each pair look and feel great, but also makes them exceedingly durable, with color that last wash after wash.
The smaller and tighter each stitch, the better quality the sock is, so each pair is created using a circular knitting method; stitch by stitch, row by row and always uses the highest needle count possible to ensure that their stitches are as tight as possible.
INSPIRATION
“I was inspired by 1960s bohemian folk costumes and Victorian Pre-Raphaelite era paintings with a lot of kaleidoscopic prints and patterns. As opposed to pastels like we had done in the past, I was leaning towards rich, vibrant jewel tones that work nicely for fall and winter. It’s a moodier palette, which works well with a variety of warmer menswear fabrics I love such as corduroy, tweeds, wools and so on, but obviously the bright colors also lend themselves well to spring wardrobes so it felt like the collection works well for a year round wardrobe.”
