Eric Koston has, more than a few times, been referred to as “the Michael Jordan of skateboarding.” Bangkok-born and California-bred, he is unmatched in his constant innovation as a modern street skater, and a true legend of the sport. Influential to this day with young skaters, he is a six-time Summer X Games medalist and won the Tampa Pro street title and Thrasher’s Skater of the Year—not once but twice. Not to mention, a game changer off the board; video games, clothing brands and Nike sneaker deals aside, his website The Berrics, co-founded with Steve Berra, helped bring the sport into the digital age.
Here, the father of three tells us all the stuff he’s nerding out on right now—from his backyard grilling gear to his namesake cold brew recipe and what he rides out on the waves.

APPLE WATCH

“When you work remotely, sometimes you can get by with just a watch. I don’t like skating with things in my pocket or if I’m surfing, I can’t have a phone on me anyways. So the Apple Watch is a great way to keep me connected when I need to be. Also there’s plenty of apps that integrate with the watch activity wise that you can nerd out on.”
TONY HAWK’S PRO SKATER 1+2
“The first two games were ones that I actually played the most—and to have it come back brings so many good memories not only to myself, but to all the fans of this game that were there in the beginning.”

Available on PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch on March 26th
TRAEGER GRILL IRONWOOD 885
“This is a game changer when it comes to grilling/smoking. You can control it from your phone, so you can be out and about while smoking a 12-hour brisket. Every piece of meat I’ve thrown in that thing has never let me down.”
LA MORRA FROZEN PIZZA

“Don’t be deterred by the sound of frozen pizza. Theirs is amazing, so stock up your freezer.”
SPECIALIZED TURBO CREO SL E-BIKE

“Yes I know, E-bike sounds lazy, but it’s a great alternative to a car—especially navigating through LA’s traffic and hilly terrain. I also like to be able to ride my bike to go skateboarding without having to wear my legs out and helps warm me up.”
COLD BREW ICE LATTES
“It’s equal parts cold brew concentrate and oat milk—or any milk preference. Add lots of ice. I’ve ordered it enough times at my local coffee spot, Broome Street General Store, that they’ve named it after me.”
Make It Like Broome Street
- Combine equal parts cold brew and water.
- Serve over ice or with a splash of milk.
The Koston
- Combine equal parts cold brew and milk (whole, oat, almond… go crazy).
- Serve over lots of ice.
CATCH SURF

“They make the best soft top surfboards. They’re great for beginner surfers, my kids love them, and they make many sizes and shapes in case you are a bit more advanced and want something specific for your local break. Easy, safe and fun to ride which is all I want when I’m surfing..”
NIKE SB DUNKS
“I know, I know… I skate for Nike SB. But the Dunk is still a great looking shoe, they skate good and—as you know by now, are like currency.”
